If those who cause destruction have come to be ‘newsworthy’, and those who heal the devastation of that destruction have come to be less than ‘noteworthy’, has our thirst to be entertained become the truly destructive thing?

You can measure a man by the inches lost in his failures, or you can measure a man by the miles forged in his refusal to give up despite the pain of the inches.

It is the doubt of success that insures the fulfillment of that doubt.

The light at the end of the tunnel doesn’t matter if you’re going backwards.

Depravity has nothing to do with wealth.

A few feeble words can ignite a miracle.

The mind of man is a cistern in a land where it never rains.

Even if yesterday was wildly successful, I still don’t want to repeat it. Rather, I want to build on it.

At the point that I lay on my deathbed or find myself at the end of my life in whatever way that might come, I want to know with assurance that I squeezed everything out of my life and into the lives of those around me. I want to be wrung dry. I want to be a limp rag empty of everything. For if there is even the slightest hint of moisture within me that I somehow did not squeeze out into the life of someone else, I may have done well in life, but I nonetheless carried something to my grave that should have been left in the life of someone now standing at my graveside. And to die empty is the passion that wrings me dry in the living of my days.

I took a walk this morning. And as I did, I wished that an awakening world would see opportunities in this day that it did not see when it went to bed last night. And I further wished that when it went to bed at the close of this day, it did so with enough hope for a thousand mornings of opportunity.

The opportunist doesn’t believe that bad things always happen ‘to’ them. Rather, they believe that they often happen ‘for’ them.

Tomorrow is the opportunity that is being nurtured in the darkness of your night.

The soft scent of freshly fallen leaves tenderly permeated a forest ignited to a flaming brilliance with sizzling reds, burning oranges, and electric yellows. Yet in the midst of all of the riotous beauty the forest suddenly fell still and entirely silent. And in that moment it seemed that autumn paused in a sort of solemn reverence where it fondly recalled the leaves of summer that had set the stage for the glory of fall, while the slumber of winter would animate the buds of spring. And standing there I wondered if we should not take a moment to reflect on the fact that a season might be dark but it is only a chapter, never a story.

No yesterday can hold tomorrow’s sun captive to a horizon from which it cannot rise.

In the end, the only thing that a life unreclaimed by God can claim is that it has nothing to claim despite claims to the contrary.

Success is not determined by how many times we cross the finish line. Rather, it’s determined by the amount of times that we return to the starting block because the failure to cross the finish line is unacceptable.

It’s not wondering what God might do. Rather, it’s resting in what He’s already done that evidences what He’s certain to do.

It’s not about what can’t be done. It’s about what we can actually do with what can’t be done.

If I am swallowed up in the bowels of negativity, and if the world seems eternally dark and forever foreboding it is likely that I have recklessly abandoned any notion of thankfulness. It is entirely likely that I have set the whole of my mind on what I don’t have, constructed the essence of my attitude around what hasn’t worked, and fashioned a vision for my future on the cold corpses of the many dreams that died horrific deaths. Yet, if I dare to be thankful for the fact that what I do have will always outweigh what I don’t, that everything that didn’t work places me one step closer to that which will, and that the death of one dream creates a space for the birth of a greater one, negativity will perish, light will dawn, and I will never fall to any of these things again.

The ferocity of the storm is always measured by the compass that we’ve taken into it.

Success may not have been ‘around the corner,’ but the fact that I persisted until I was is success.

The lie is that our circumstances will always loom larger than any solution to those circumstances, and therefore our situation is (and will always be) our forever story. But God says that our circumstances will never be anything other than a fleeting footnote because He is our forever story.

The greatest blessings arise when we reject the lesser blessings of men so that we are never dulled to the infinitely greater blessings of God.

If a grave is empty, is it a grave? I wonder how Jesus would answer that.
